Eye Probe Update

I did a few hours worth of research last week on the eye probe procedure for opening Avelyn's plugged tear duct. I learned that the odds of a successful probe are much better when the baby is closer to age 6 months. B and I talked it through. I prayed about it. I talked to my gfs. In the end, I decided the probe was what needed to happen.

The day of Avelyn's appointment I was a mess. I was snapping at my husband and so tense! We told the dr what we had decided and they took her in the back room. As soon as I heard her start crying, I started as well. :(

The one solace I took from hearing her cry was that it wasn't a "pain" cry. It was a scared and pissed off cry. They used drops to numb her eye and then they strapped her into the papoose. I wasn't allowed in the room but they used a probe and cleared the blockage. I made Avelyn's follow up appointment and cried in the waiting room for the 3 minutes the whole procedure took. Yap! Just three minutes...but it felt like 3 years!

During that time and immediately after, I was so irrationally pissed off at every single person there. My poor husband was trying to comfort me but I wanted to just scream and yell at everyone. I didn't...but when the doctors and nurses were trying to explain the follow up care I was totally zoned out. They handed Avy to me and she was crying harder than I had ever seen her. She would stop to look at the doctor then bury her head in my hair and scream some more. I wanted to just run out the door.

Anyway, it was difficult to get through but looking back it was so fast. The best part is that Avelyn's eye is better than ever! There was some goop in it the day after and some of that goop was blood colored. However, just 48 hours later and it is perfect!

It was all worth it!
